Guanajuato is located northwest of Mexico City, at an altitude of 1996 meters above sea level. The historic city and its affiliated mines have been included in the World Heritage Sites, and the city has a network of underground roads through which much traffic passes through the city, and the city is surrounded by hills and mountains from almost all directions. Although the city of Guanajuato is the capital of the state, it ranks fifth among the state's cities in terms of population. The most distinctive feature of Guanajuato and attracts the eye of every visitor is the picturesque colors that are painted on most of the houses in the city. Guanajuato is famous for being the venue for the Cerventiano Festival, an art festival that brings visitors from all over the world, as well as being a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
