The El Pipila memorial honors the hero who set fire to the Hundega gates on September 28, 1810, enabling Hidalgo's forces to achieve their first victory for the independence movement. The statue shows El Pipila carrying a torch over the city. On its base, there are historical inscriptions. The easiest way to reach this monument is via the funicular and you can also reach the monument through two roads in the city center that lead to picturesque but steep walkways.
