The City of San Marino is the capital of San Marino; the fifth smallest country in the world with an area of only 61 km2 and whose borders lie entirely within Italy. Aside from its long history and unique architecture, the biggest attraction of this small capital is that it is perched on a mountain with amazing panoramic views of the Italian countryside. Take a look at the oldest republic in the world from the top of Mount Titano with stunning views of the rolling hills of the upper Marchia Valley, the great fortress of San Leo, Mount Carpigna, and the Adriatic coast, then visit the Basilica of San Marino, Basilica of San Pietro, Basilica of San Francesco, Chapel of Cappuccini, the General Palace and the State Museum, and stroll the narrow streets of the old city center and see old-world charm in San Marino in medieval homes, small hanging gardens, and flower-filled balconies.
