San Marino is a country completely surrounded by Italy. It is one of the smallest countries in the world. It claims to be the oldest republic in the world, as its constitution dates back to October 1600. The country bears the name of Saint Marinus; a Christian stone sculptor who is said to have founded the state in AD 301. Most of the country's cultural attractions are located in the capital of the same name, and tourists come from far and wide to explore its old buildings, wonderful restaurants and shops, as well as many interesting small museums, and most areas of the country enjoy beautiful views of the neighboring towns and surrounding countryside.
