Founded in 1361 by a Franciscan monastery, St. Francis is the oldest church in San Marino, with a splendid exterior that still bears Roman icons and inscriptions on the western wall, as well as a local stone plaque above the church door. The interior was radically restructured in the late eighteenth century, and since 1966, the church houses a museum consisting of two sections: Sacred Art and the Art Gallery. You can admire the artworks of the monastery and other Franciscan churches, as well as paintings on wood and canvas, precious frescoes, and vestments from the 14th to 18th centuries.
