The Gate of Saint Francis is an ancient gate made of gray stone polished with a chisel. It is the first entrance to San Marino and was built during the construction of the third set of walls in the 16th century. On the facade there is a prominent balcony dating back to the sixteenth century and carved on its facade with the coat of arms of the Republic, and inside the gate there is a prominent modern plaque commemorating the inclusion of San Marino in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
