The city of Tartus, the capital of Tartus Governorate, is one of the Syrian cities that overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. It contains the second most important port overlooking the sea in the State of Syria. It was founded by the Phoenicians of Arwad. It is about 100 meters away from Arwad Island and 250 kilometers from the capital, Damascus. . The city is characterized by the beauty of its markets, buildings, facilities, and tourist hotels, in addition to its port. Its beach is about 90 kilometers long, and it is characterized by the softness of its sands, its luxurious chalets, its cafes, its high-end hotels, as well as its restaurants that offer the most delicious seafood. The city includes many archaeological remains that date back to the Middle Ages, such as walls, arches, alleys, towers, and others, and one of the most prominent of these monuments is the Tartus Cathedral.
