Diyarbakir is the cultural capital of Turkey located on the banks of the Tigris River in southeastern Anatolia. Many civilizations and cultures have lived in it throughout its 9,000-year history, among the distinctive monuments that are included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List: Diyarbakir Castle and Hevsel Gardens, in addition to the second longest wall in the world. The area was named after the Bek Bekir Vail tribe, which settled in the area and was called the land of Bekir in the beginning and then its final name was reached Diyarbakir.
