The Masoudiya School was built by the Artuqid Emirate between 1198-1223. While the construction of the madrasa began in 1198 and was completed in 1123 during the time of Mevdud, nicknamed King Masoud, the plan for the madrasa was drawn up by the master Kafir ibn Mahmud of Aleppo. According to the school's inscription, subjects such as jurisprudence, medicine, physics, mathematics, biology, chemistry, literature and philosophy were taught there.
