The Diyarbakir Archaeological Museum displays most of the Hittite, Assyrian, Roman, Byzantine, Artioan and Ottoman artifacts from Diyarbakir and its surroundings, as well as Neolithic artifacts in the region. The number of archaeological and ethnographic works in the museum exceeds 10,000 works and objects. The museum, which opened in 1934, has continued its activities in the Sankariya School, which was built during the era of the Artuqid ruler Salih Mahmoud (1201-1222) to date. The museum moved to the new building in 1986.
