Hidalgo, or officially the State of Hidalgo, Free and Sovereign, is one of the thirty-one states of Mexico, located specifically in the east of the country, and contains a number of indigenous tribes that have retained their heritage, such as the Otomi. Hidalgo is considered one of the most important forums for tourists in Mexico, due to its picturesque nature, as it contains hot water springs, mountain ranges and old Spanish farms, and also contains a number of environmental and cultural tourist destinations and archaeological monuments, including the Wasteca region and the ruins of the historic city of Tula.
