El Chico National Park is a protected area in the state of Hidalgo, and is one of the oldest protected areas in Mexico, dating back to 1898. Today, the 2,739-hectare park is filled with pine, oak and juniper forests. The park offers the city a unique scenic beauty due to its mountainous terrain, covered with active river drainage and covered with abundant fir forests, all these parts form a natural mosaic that incorporates the outstanding and distinctive physical and biological features that are reflected in scenic geographical shapes such as cliffs and valleys.
