Bcharre is located on the border of Qadisha Valley in the North Governorate of Lebanon. The word Bcharre is originally from the Phoenician language, which means "the house of Ishtar"; It is one of the deities that the Phoenicians worshiped in the past. This town is the birthplace of the famous poet, painter, and sculptor Khalil Gibran, who now has a museum in the city to honor him. The nearby site of the Holy Qadisha Valley is also home to some of the oldest Christian monastic communities in the Middle East; It is a true heritage of Maronite Christianity. Maronite Christians fleeing persecution sought refuge in its mountainous terrain in the seventh century AD, and then Wadi Qadisha became the spiritual center of the Maronite Church. The people of Bcharre are brave and tribal and are particularly known for their distinctive dialect when they speak Lebanese Arabic.
