Bari is a port city on the Adriatic Sea, and the capital of the Apulia region in southern Italy. The city's old town, called Barivecchia and similar to mahat, occupies vertically between two harbours. The 11th-century Basilica di San Nicola, a major pilgrimage site, contains some of the remains of Saint Nicholas, and is surrounded by narrow streets. To the south, the Murat neighborhood features 19th-century architecture with promenades and pedestrian shopping areas.
