Information about Teatro Petruzzelli
This magnificent theater, the fourth largest in Italy, was completed in 1903 as an opera house and concert hall and has hosted some of the great Italian and international artists, including Luciano Pavarotti, Rudolf Nureyev, Ray Charles, Lisa Minnelli and Frank Sinatra. In October of 1991, the building was completely destroyed by fire. It has been completely reconstructed as it was originally, complete with its five tiers and dazzling decoration. It reopened in 2009 with the Barry County Orchestra performing Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
