Located on the borders of Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Switzerland in north-eastern France, the Alsace-Grand-Est region has this harmonious blend of Gallic and Germanic influences evident in everything from architecture and local customs to food and language. There are many attractions worth visiting and exploring in this region, the most famous of which are the battlefields of the Ardennes and Verdun, the champagne and wine factories in the vineyards spread throughout, and the Rhine River, which has a charming landscape. While the area consists mostly of hills and farmland, the Vosges Mountains in the east offer some great hiking trails.
