The city of Ostrava is located in the eastern Czech Republic, in the Morpho-Shelsea district, in the historic Czech region of Šle. It is located at the intersection of the Ostravica, Oder and Uvba rivers. Ostrava has a population of over 330,000 thousand and is the third most populous in the Czech Republic. Its metropolitan area is 3,896 square kilometres. Its climate is moderately continental. Despite the industrial character of the city, it attracts many tourists annually. It contains family parks and gardens. Ostrava includes distinguished tourist sites, including the Museum of Mines, which displays mining tools from the nineteenth century, as well as videos that give visitors a glimpse of that period. Also rising on the roof of the municipality is a metal and glass tower with a viewing balcony, up to 72 meters high, from which one can see the entire city and the surrounding areas.
