Neuquén is one of the cities in the region of Patagonia, occupying a strip of land west of the confluence of the Lemy and Neuquén rivers that form the Negro River. The population of this city and its surrounding area is more than 340,000, making it the largest city in Patagonia along with the towns of Plottier and Cipolite. Its early inhabitants were very mobile and moved according to the seasons of the year, climatic conditions, and the abundance of food. Around the sixteenth century, the Mapuche people began to assimilate the people living in different parts of the province, and one of the most important routes used by the Mapuche to pass through the confluence of the Lemai and Neuquén rivers was reached by European explorers in the seventeenth century. In general, its climate is considered dry throughout the year. In addition, there are enough tourist attractions in this city that attract many tourists from all over the world.
