Kairouan is a beautiful Tunisian city, about 160 km from Tunis. This city is also known as the capital of the Aghlabids, and it is the first Islamic city built in the Maghreb, and it had a strategic role in the Islamic conquest, as the conquest campaigns were launched from it towards Algeria, Spain, and Africa. In it, you will find many amazing Islamic monuments during your wanderings, such as the hermitage of the mosque of Uqba ibn Nafi, the founder of the city, the amazing city wall, the Three Gates Mosque, the Aghlabid mosaic, and many more. It is now one of the most important Tunisian cities, with a population of about 116,000. It is definitely one of the most important tourist destinations in the country, and is frequented by tourists throughout the year, but the most preferred tourism months are the spring and early summer months when the weather is mild. This city is called by the Muslim jurists the name "Raba'a al-Thala", meaning that it is one of the most important Islamic places after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem.
