This mosque was founded in 866 AD by Muhammad ibn Qirun al-Ma'fari, a cleric from the Spanish city of Cordoba. The facade of the building is characterized by the Andalusian design techniques and influences that are known for its beauty and the prominence of its place in Islamic architecture. Above the entrance are three arches, from which the name of the mosque is quoted. Surrounded by an inscription in Kufic script, two of them bear the name of the founder of the mosque and are interspersed with floral inscriptions and a carved cornice.
