Djerba is a small island in southern Tunisia, filled with white sandy beaches and white domed houses. The inhabitants of Djerba have preserved many of their traditions and the island's unique architecture. Its prices are cheap for accommodation and shopping, and it has many luxury hotels along the east coast. Djerba is famous for its Mediterranean beaches and white desert cities influenced by Berber, Arab, Jewish and African cultures. Houmt Souk is the main town in Djerba, famous for its handicraft markets, fishing port and the Grand Borj. To the south is the El Ghriba Synagogue, a pilgrimage site for Jews in North Africa.
