The "Ghariba" synagogue is an old synagogue, and the accounts say that it was built on the place of the residence of "Al-Ghariba", a Jewish worshiper who settled on the island of Djerba on the site of the synagogue. The synagogue contains the oldest copies of the Torah from the Old Testament. Annual celebrations are held by the Jewish community in Tunisia and from around the world, where huge numbers of visitors and “pilgrims” come to visit the place and pray, especially on the days of Jewish holidays.
