The village of Al-Aqoura is located in the high mountains of the Jbeil District in the Mount Lebanon Governorate, at an altitude of 1600 meters above sea level, and it is located between the Western Chain Mountains. Its strategic geographical location made it a focus of attention on all levels. From the north it is bordered by Tannourine, and from the south, a bridge over the Ruwais River separates it from Al-Majdal. Al-Aqoura is the source of history. The word Aqoura means “the cold eye” due to the density of water in it. The village is characterized by amazing and charming places in nature with its different views of the attractive landscape. It is also characterized by its many flowing springs and its tiered natural pyramids. The most prominent caves in it are: Al-Ruwais Cave, which is the largest In Lebanon, in addition to the "Ain al-Labbah" cave. The history of Aqoura witnessed many civilizations that followed it, making it a center for Maronite religious tourism. For this reason, there are today in Aqoura more than 41 churches and many holy places, including the ancient St. Peter Church carved into the rock.
