Taqah Castle is the most famous castle in the Dhofar Governorate in southern Oman. It is an important archaeological site that tourists and locals visit to explore and see its preserved monuments to this day. The castle is located specifically in the old town of Taqah, 33 km east of Salalah. Taking a trip back in time to the 19th century, there are some beautifully restored rooms. Taqah Castle differs from other castles in the region as it is the private residence of the tribal leader Sheikh Ali bin Tamman Al Ma’shani (who was Sultan Qaboos’s maternal grandfather), and includes luxurious interiors, enchanting antiques, and exquisite artwork and craftsmanship that beautifully highlight the Omani culture.
