Here, where the thousand-year-old history of the ancient city of Brest began, in the midst of a military monument and on the grounds of the heroic Brest fortress, stands the long-suffering witness, the Cathedral of St. Nicholas Garrison. In 1851 AD, after long and expensive construction work, the castle cathedral was established, the most beautiful example of the defensive architecture of the church. It was built in the Byzantine style with side aisles, a large apse and an imposing dome surmounted by the cross of St. George. Despite the succession of disasters and wars on the city, the cathedral survived the hardships of wars and destruction, and once again became a national spiritual and architectural monument not only to Brest, but also to the entire Belarusian people.
