The museum is the main building out of three buildings spread across Iceland. It is the home and former atelier of the famous sculptor Esmondor Svensson, who designed and also participated heavily in building most of it in the Laugardalur county in the same city. The museum displays his works and aspects of His life, and also a large group of his sculptures are placed inside and outside the building, inspired by the Icelandic epics and battles fought in the country, and folk tales told to children and others.
