Information about Mausoleum of the Prophet Daniel
This shrine is adorned with five magnificent domes, and its interior courtyards include an 18-meter-tall sarcophagus that purports to contain the relics of the Old Testament prophet Daniel, an important figure in all monotheistic religions, but only Christians consider him a prophet. The legend says that after his burial in Samarkand, a natural spring emerged from the outer courtyards of the tomb, and this spring is considered sacred and with healing properties by the locals. The legend also says that the tomb is this tall because the Prophet Daniel is constantly growing by 5 cm per year, but the real reason behind the length of the mausoleum is that King Timur designed it to this length to make it impervious to grave robbers in the fifteenth century.
