Information about Montale Gallery and San Marino Train
For a few years prior to World War II, San Marino had a rail network consisting of a single line connecting the country to the Italian rail network at Rimini Railway Station. There were 17 tunnels, all located within the San Marino territory, ranging in length from about 50 meters to 800 meters, but they were almost completely destroyed during the fighting in this area during World War II. The Montale Gallery today houses the Montale tunnel for the San Marino train, which is about 500 meters long, has been inspected for safety, has been illuminated and is open for pedestrian use.
