A ten-minute walk west uphill from Ulu Cami and downtown Bursa is the Castle Gate, the oldest part of the city, built on a promontory surrounded by large stone walls for ease of defence. Because it is the oldest part of Bursa, it contains many old Ottoman houses in Bursa, some of which have been restored. Do not miss visiting this gate so that you can learn about its history and contemplate this ancient archaeological site.
