Established in 1954, the Craiova Art Museum is located in the Mikhail Palace, the building that emerged in the city of Craiova as the most surprising private property at the beginning of the twentieth century, representing one of the highest standards of civil architecture of the period. The Craiova Art Museum inherited pieces of art belonging to the Some of the most important paintings and art galleries in the region, which are private collections previously donated by their owners to the local community, and acquired most of the “Alexandru and Aristia Aman” collection, which consisted of furniture, Italian, French, Dutch and Flemish school paintings dating back to the 17th to 19th century, paintings and drawings by Theodor Aman, the museum's heritage today consists of more than 8,000 works of European and Roman art.
