Information about Bodrum Castle
Bodrum Castle, also known as St. Peter's Castle, is located on the waterfront and is one of the most visited places in Bodrum. Built by the Knights of Saint John or Knights Templar between 1402 and 1437, knights of different nationalities were tasked with defending certain sections of the walls. Among the various towers is the French Tower. An English tower, with a lion carved on its western wall, and the Gatineau Tower that leads to the dungeons. During the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman, the castle fell under the rule of the Turks and a mosque was built inside. Today, several spacious halls inside the castle display the exhibits of the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archeology.
