Founded in 1855 by King Maximilian II, the Bavarian National Museum (Bayerisches Nationalmuseum) is one of the most important museums of decorative arts in Europe and one of the largest in Germany, sprawled over a relaxing resort-like stretch. Among its highlights are a collection of medieval German sculpture, there are also important collections of bronze, clocks, porcelain, and glass, and a large section dedicated to the art and cultural history of Bavaria arranged chronologically from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.
