Information about Arsameia
Founded in the 3rd century BC, this worship and burial site is located on Mount Nimrud where Nimrud National Park was the summer residence of the Commagene rulers. In addition to the remains of the steps and buildings on the summit plateau (with mosaics from the 2nd century BC), there are a number of reliefs and rock rooms on the way to the top. The first large reliefs inspired by Mithras show Helios, while the middle relief shows King Cometh Mithridates and his son Antiochus I. From here, a rocky tunnel leads to the burial chamber. Another picture shows Mithridates shaking hands with Hercules.
