The Archaeological Museum houses the exhibition “Veliko Tarnovo - Capital of Bulgaria from the 12th to the 14th Century” in which the history and culture of the ancient Tarnovo region is traced, with a primary focus on the period of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. The exhibition was created in November 1985 to celebrate the 800th anniversary On the rebellion of Assen and Peter, while the first hall focuses on the prehistoric period, the second hall presents aspects of life during antiquity through various materials and images, and the third hall presents the cultural achievements of Tarnovgrad as a capital during the period between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries .
