The Arch of Trajan or as it is called the “Roman Triumphal Arch” in Ancona is the Roman triumphal arch erected by the Senate and the people of Rome during the reign of Emperor Trajan in his honor after he expanded the city’s port and improved the docks and fortifications in the city at his personal expense. The arch was the work of the Greek-Syrian architect Apollodorus of Damascus. It is an arch made of Turkish marble specially brought from the quarries of Marmara Island, and its height is 18.5 meters. It is surrounded by a group of Corinthian columns installed on ornate pillars.
