Trapani is a city in western Sicily with a crescent-like coast and is the capital of the province of Trapani. Founded by the Elemis, the city is still an important fishing port and the main entrance to the nearby Egde Islands. At the western end of the 17th century Torre dei Liny watchtower offers attractive views of the Egde Islands where there is a museum (prehistoric and the sea), and to the north of the harbor the Church of Purgatory houses wooden carvings that are displayed throughout the city during Easter.
