Information about Riserva naturale integrale Saline di Trapani e Paceco
The Salt Nature Reserve is a nature reserve in the province of Trapani between the municipalities of Trapani and Pacico on the west coast of Sicily. It was established in 1995 and within the framework of the Ramsar Convention entrusted to WWF Italy. Its area is 987 hectares and consists of two zones (Zona A and Zona B). Besides the wonderful Mediterranean flora and fauna, there is a salt-working museum in an old salt factory. This nature reserve is home to many endemic plant species. Halophytes adaptable to salt marshes and soils with high salt concentrations represent some of the rarest of Sicilian plants, such as sea marigold (Calendula maritima), Limoniastrum monopetalum, Cynomorium cochineum, or Limonium densiflorum.
