Information about Temple of Segesta
Sagesta was one of the main cities of the Elemis, one of the three indigenous peoples of Sicily. The other major cities of the Elemis were Erik and Entella. It is located in the northwestern part of Sicily in Italy, near the modern municipality of Calatafimi-Segesta in the province of Trapani. The annexation of the region by the Hellenic civilization occurred very early on and had a profound impact on its people. On a hill outside the site of the ancient city of Segesta is an unusually preserved Doric temple. It is believed to have been built in 420 BC by an Athenian architect, although there is no significant Greek population in the city. The temple has six of fourteen columns on a plinth measuring 21 by 56 metres.
