South-central Bulgaria is bordered by the Rhodopes and Sredna Gora mountain ranges to the west and the Upper Thracian Plain to the north and east. This region includes the Central Balkan National Park and the stunning Raisko Praskalo Waterfall, the highest in the Balkans. The region is particularly famous for many Thracian archaeological sites that are well preserved to this day. Most of them are included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, and many of the ruins in some major cities, such as Plovdiv and Stara Zagora, for example, date back to the Neolithic era. This region was of great importance during the Roman era, and many Roman ruins remain in it that are considered... Today it is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Bulgaria.
