Al Shamal Municipality is considered one of the most important Qatari regions, as it enjoys an important geographical location in the far north of the State of Qatar, hence the name. The municipality is famous for trade due to its strategic location, and there are many distinctive archaeological monuments dating back centuries, and the most prominent of these monuments is the ancient Al-Zubara Fort, in addition to a number of ancient mosques that are spread throughout all areas of the municipality, most of which are in the village of Al-Arish.
