Information about Al Areesh - Fishermens villages
The village of Al-Arish is an abandoned fishing village located in the northern city of Qatar. And although its name means green oasis, which conjures up images of an idyllic spot sheltered by lush palm trees, this deserted village is a far cry from a green oasis. Very few village buildings have survived the test of time, and those have withstood the brunt of the unforgiving desert weather. There are ruins of coral rock and limestone held together by mud mortar to create thick walls, and some buildings are still covered with roofs made of mangrove branches. Closely woven and stacked on bamboo poles, all dipped in another layer of clay mortar. There is the minaret which is the best preserved remains, although it is very cracked, it still stands tall among the ruins of the surrounding buildings, and the spiral staircase still exists, making the winding climb to the top possible although certainly not recommended, and the remains of the destroyed walls of the mosque are scattered And ablution room.
