One of the city's most notable monuments, the Wörthersimandl Fountain belonged to a figure who, according to legend, was responsible for the creation of Lake Wörthersee near Klagenfurt. Mandel was so angry with the many corrupt and sinful people in the rich town that he caused a flood. You can see that Mandel is holding a barrel under his hand from which water is flowing. According to legend, all attempts to close the barrel were unsuccessful and the entire city was flooded. In 1962 the city of Klagenfurt built this bronze fountain in memory of Mandel and the legend.
