Information about Wellington Cathedral of St. Paul
St Paul's Cathedral is Wellington's Anglican Episcopal Cathedral church, begun in 1955, and completed in 1998. It was constructed of reinforced concrete due to the effects of the 1931 Napier earthquake, making other options impractical. Initially envisioned as a war memorial cathedral, it was designed on a massive scale and then began operating as an Anglican cathedral in 1964, the cathedral has many stained glass windows by church artist Brian Thomas, who had previously designed windows at Westminster Abbey and St Paul's Cathedral in London In 1970, a Holm memorial window was installed above the three doors to the cathedral's Loaves and Fishes Hall, designed by Beverly Shore Bennett, a prominent New Zealand stained glass artist.
