Virajano Dam, often known as Vigai Dam, is a relatively small stone dam located on the Vigai River, 10 km from the city of Madurai. The dam is commonly referred to as Viraganor Dam because it is located in Viraganur village, and is under maintenance by the Tamil Nadu Department of Public Works. The main objective of establishing the dam was to supply water to many remote rural areas, and the dam succeeded in that. Today, the dam is not only considered a national place for public service, but an outdoor garden has been established around it for visitors to come to spend a special time.
