Information about Villa Abd-el-Tif
Villa Djamel Abdellatif, also known as La Villa Medicis Algerie, which is located in Algiers. It is noteworthy that it was founded in 1907 in a simulation of the French Academy in Rome, Villa Medici. Until 1962 home to the laureates of the Abdellatif Prize, who were awarded scholarships to continue their studies for two years in Algeria. After the country's independence, it was designated a historical monument in 1967, and was restored before reopening in 2008. It now houses the headquarters of the Algerian Agency for Cultural Influence (AARC). Unlike the Villa Medicis in Rome, there was no permanent French director, and the artists had to organize the villa's activities in Algeria, according to financial terms. The villa was a teaching place for local artists.
