The building opened on September 29, 1853, designed by a French architect, and built in the neo-baroque style. Initially it was planned to build in Government Square (Martyrs Square), but the colonial government at that time preferred the Bryson axis, Future Square (Port Said). The opera was also built on the basis of former barracks for Turkish guards. The Algerian National Theater has hosted world-class ensembles, such as the Bolochoi, Peking Opera, Chinese and Japanese theatre, the Piccolo Theater in Milan, the Symphony Orchestra, and national performances for Syria and Egypt .
