The square garden was once the secret garden of Paul III; The pope who saw the church during the Reformation and convened the Council of Trent, approved the religious order of the Jesuits and greatly supported the arts during his pontificate. The historic garden adorns the square with sprawling lawn in front of the Gallery, the gallery of paintings in the Vatican Museums; There is also a large fountain in the center surrounded by small orange trees in terracotta pots.
