The Scott Polar Research Institute and Museum (SPRI) is a research center specializing in polar regions and glaciology around the world. It is a sub-division of the Department of Geography at the University of Cambridge, and is located on Linsfield Street in south Cambridge. Frank Debenham established the Institute in 1920 as the national memorial to Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his companions, who died on their return voyage from the South Pole in 1912. It researches issues related to the Arctic and Antarctica in the environmental sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The Institute is home to the Polar Museum and has approximately 60 staff members, consisting of academic, library and support staff as well as graduate students, fellows, and fellows in research programs. The institute also hosts the Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research.
