The Amman Citadel is an important historical site in the center of Amman, where remnants of pottery dating back to the Neolithic period were found proving that the city was inhabited by different peoples and cultures until the time of the Umayyads, after which the former city became a pile of abandoned ruins that he does not use Except for Bedouins and seasonal farmers. Despite this gap, the Amman Citadel is among the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world, and most of the buildings still standing on the site date from the Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad periods, and its major buildings include the Temple of Hercules, the Byzantine Church, and the Umayyad Palace.
