One of the most beautiful palaces in the city is the 16th-century Tavoras Palace, located on Paseo das Mordomas da Romaria in Viana do Castelo, and was built by Fernando Brandão, who wanted to make it the home of Abreu Távora. Several years later, it was renovated by the architect Manuel Pinto Villalobos, and in the second half of the nineteenth century, the building was purchased by the city council for use in municipal services.
